John L. Powell, ABR, CRB, CRS, GRI, SHS, vice president and supervising broker of Long & Foster REALTORS® in Colonial Heights, has spent the past two decades building a distinguished career in real estate.
The Virginia Association of REALTORS®’ 2008 president-elect, Powell is the 2007 chair of the Virginia Managers Council. He has devoted significant time and energy serving his fellow REALTORS®, including 2004 president of the Central Virginia Regional MLS, 2001 president of the Southside Virginia Association of REALTORS® and VAR Policy Board member from 2004 to 2007.
At SVAR, Powell has filled numerous roles including chairman of the Personnel, Membership, Past Presidents, Bylaws, RPAC, and Budget and Finance committees. Additionally, he served as treasurer and vice president of SVAR.
In 2003, he was a member of VAR’s Public Policy Advisory Group. Prior to being elected its president, Powell served the Central Virginia Regional MLS as a member of the board of directors from 2001 to 2005, chairman of the Strategic Planning and Budget and Finance committees in 2003, and a member of the Contract Review Group in 2006.
Powell has been a member of the Richmond Association of REALTORS®, Southside Virginia Association of REALTORS®, and VAR Honor Society since 1996. In 2005 he was named VAR’s Manager of the Year. He has been a Multi-Million Dollar Producer of SVAR since 1988 and in 2001 was named SVAR’s REALTOR® of the Year.
While he devotes much of his time to serving as a volunteer for REALTOR® organizations, Powell is also committed to helping various community organizations and causes including the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School, Christmas in April, Ducks Unlimited, Appomattox Chapter, the Retail Merchants Association, and the Petersburg and Colonial Heights Chamber of Commerce.
