VAR Officer Candidate Procedures
1. Policy Board will elect Treasurer, Vice President and President Elect (and President if the President-Elect is unable or unwilling to move up) at its summer meeting.
2. A candidate for election as an Association officer must be a current member of the Policy Board or shall have served as a Policy Board member within the most recent five years. President, President-elect and Vice President may not serve successive terms/years. Treasurer position will be a two-year term and the Treasurer may serve for no more than two full consecutive terms.
3. Policy Board members interested in Office must complete the Candidate Information Form. The Candidate Information Form must be submitted to the CEO thirty (30) days prior to the election meeting. The CEO shall provide copies of the Form to all Policy Board members at least fifteen (15) days before the election meeting..
4. One member of the Leadership Team will call each candidate individually to respond to any questions and ensure that the candidates fully understand the responsibilities of the respective position.
5. At the summer Policy Board meeting, each candidate will have the opportunity to speak for up to 5 minutes and respond to questions from the Policy Board (while other candidates for that position are NOT in the room).
6. By secret ballot, the Policy Board will elect the Officers. Candidates and current officers (including President) also may vote. Election shall be by majority vote.
(*NOTE: In June, VAR should solicit names for AG and StratPlan Chair, Vice-Chair and Member positions. Soon after the summer meeting, the President and President Elect (in consultation with CEO and staff Group Leaders) should meet to make these selections for approval by the Policy Board at its September meeting. Bylaws suggest that selection of AG and StratPlan members be made in consultation with the respective Chairs.)
