R. Scott Brunner, CAE

Scott Brunner joined the VAR staff as CEO in August 2005 after 11 years as CEO of the Mississippi Association of REALTORS. He is in his twentieth year in association management, having started in 1988 with the Alabama Association of REALTORS.

He’s a native of Bessemer, Alabama, holds degrees from the University of Montevallo and Auburn University, and earned the prestigious Certified Association Executive designation in 1997.

Scott is a graduate of Leadership Jackson; was included in the Mississippi Business Journal’s "Top 40 Under 40" class in 1999; and in 2003 was dean of NAR's Association Executive Institute. In 2006, he served as one of 12 NAR committee liaisons for NAR President Tom Stevens.

In Mississippi, Scott conceived the nationally recognized LeadershipMAR program, that association’s REALTOR leadership development initiative that has served as a model for association leadership development nationwide. More than 30 state REALTOR associations across the U.S., including the Virginia Association, have replicated the Mississippi program in their states…including Virginia.

Scott has been an occasional commentator on National Public Radio's All Things Considered program. He is the author of two books of essays about the South, both published by Random House.

Scott and his wife Karen have an 12-year-old daughter, Claire, and twin boys, Pate and Jackson, who are nine years old.

Scott has a genuine love for the REALTOR organization and a passion for serving its members in ways that benefit them.
