Legal Hotline
The VAR Legal Hotline is a free, members-only benefit for brokers. You can receive answers to questions about Virginia real estate law and timely information on legal and regulatory issues concerning the real estate industry.
The Legal Hotline provides legal information, not legal services. You should consult your attorney if you need representation or advice.

- Please note that many of the questions the Hotline receives have already been answered in Commonwealth articles or other VAR publications; please check the VAR Legal Resources Center for Q&A, videos, and more on a variety of lagal topics.
- You must be a principal broker and have completed an application before calling the Legal Hotline. The supervising broker and one other designated person from each office (for example, an associate broker or office manager) may register as designees of the principal broker.
- When you call, please have your NRDS number ready, and put it on any e-mailed questions. Calls and e-mails will be handled by VAR Counsel Blake Hegeman.
- The hotline is not a service for real estate consumers. Consumers and members of the public who have questions about their REALTOR® or their transaction should contact either the firm's managing or principal broker. Questions about ethical behavior should be directed to the nearest Local Association of REALTORS®. Questions about law or regulation should be directed to the Virginia Real Estate Board at (804) 367-8500.

Simply fill out the form below. If you qualify (you must be a principal broker or specifically designated by your broker to use the VAR legal hotline), you will receive an e-mail confirming your registration. Submitting an application does not automatically enter you into the call return queue, so make sure to also call with your question or e-mail (see "How to Contact the Legal Hotine" above.)
